The Prelude to Sounds From A Safe Harbour is a unique event, which takes place on the evening of September 12 ​at the end of a week-long residency period in the stately Lismore Castle, will include Bryce and Aaron Dessner (The National), Lisa Hannigan, members of internationally renowned new music group Crash Ensemble and virtuosic Canadian violinist, Yuki Numata Resnick.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a once in a lifetime evening of collaboration between artists at their absolute creative peak.

After a string of sell-out shows and festival appearances in the UK and Ireland, Dylan Haskins and Lisa Hannigan’s live show-come-podcast ‘Soundings Holy Trinity’ joins forces with Sounds from a Safe Harbour to present: ‘Soundings from a Safe Harbour’. In a first for Soundings, Dylan & Lisa’s three guests are all from the same family. Siblings Bryce, Aaron and Jessica Dessner will share their stories and songs to inspire, alarm and humour in the surrounds of a disused bonded warehouse
in the Port of Cork.

Drawing on influences including Jack Kerouac’s Big Sur, renaissance composer John Dowland and experimentation with an old harmonium, St Carolyn by the Sea, shows off composer Bryce Dessner’s rich ear for string writing. St. Carolyn by the Sea will be performed by the RTE National Symphony Orchestra with Bryce and Aaron Dessner on guitars.
Sounds from a Safe Harbour is honoured to be among the commissioning partners for Wave Movements, co-written by Bryce Dessner (The National) and Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire).
Wave Movements has been commissioned by Barbican Centre, Edinburgh International Festival, Cork Opera House, Sydney Festival and St. Denis Festival in collaboration with MET Museum Presents for the NY Philharmonic Contact Ensemble

As the festival tide rolls out of Cork, we take some time to celebrate the wave it has created with this intimate evening presented by Bryce Dessner (The National). The evening will showcase Crash Ensemble, So Percusson and Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) with special appearances by Bryce himself, Aaron Dessner (The National), Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Yuki Numata Resnick and Nadia Sirota.


Aaron

Aaron Dessner is a Brooklyn-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. He is best known as a member of the acclaimed rock band The National. Aaron writes the majority of the music for The National, collaborating on songs with singer and lyricist Matt Berninger.

Aaron has production credits on every album by The National since and including Alligator and has recently produced the critically acclaimed This Is the Kit album Bashed Out. Aaron will feature on the Friday evening of Sounds from a Safe Harbour with Lisa Hannigan.
